The first and most famous mid-Victorian photomontage (then called combination printing) was "The Two Ways of Life" (1857) by Oscar Rejlander, followed shortly thereafter by the images of photographer Henry Peach Robinson such as "Fading Away" (1858). Such environments as dioramas were made of composited images.ġ9th century The Two Ways of Life, a moralistic photo montage of Rejlanders own work, 1857-a choice between vice (at left) and virtue (at right) Robinson's Fading Away (1858) A composite of related photographs to extend a view of a single scene or subject would not be labeled as a montage, but instead a stitched image or a digital image mosaic.Īuthor Oliver Grau in his book, Virtual Art: From Illusion to Immersion, notes that the creation of an artificial immersive virtual reality, arising as a result of technical exploitation of new inventions, is a long-standing human practice throughout the ages. This latter technique is referred to by professionals as " compositing", and in casual usage is often called " photoshopping" (from the name of the popular software system). A similar method, although one that does not use film, is realized today through image-editing software. Sometimes the resulting composite image is photographed so that the final image may appear as a seamless physical print. Photomontage is the process and the result of making a composite photograph by cutting, gluing, rearranging and overlapping two or more photographs into a new image. Along with caution, adult supervision and responsibility should be used.Composite image created from two or more photographs Photomontage of kiwifruit and lemons, digitally manipulated using GIMP The realistic way to handle these issues is to use caution and to educate the possible dangers these networks may bring. Lack of privacy within these networks has also brought many problems making it unsafe, especially for the younger generation. The time many spend social networking has increased, creating an issue within marriages and families. For many, it has become an addiction, a cell- or dungeon. The concept behind my creation – I believe that social media has become a big issue in the past few years. This made it blend well by softening the edges and really making my project come together. I finished by taking a digital picture of my final project. All the pieces complimented the overall project well. After they were cut out, I glued them unto an index board. It took several printing jobs to get all the pictures the right size. The only way to fix this problem was to print out what I already had and manually cut and paste the rest of the pictures unto it. This program would not allow me to use the remaining room I had outside the designated area of the computer screen. However, I had more pictures I wanted to incorporate into my photomontage to make a statement on this issue. This program allowed me to add multiple pictures to the designated area and to play around with the transparency settings. ![]() After searching through their pictures I found the perfect match for my photomontage the picture of a lap top. I came across a less complicated program under. I decided to put it together manually instead of digitally. My next step was to simplify this project and do it the way I knew how. I became frustrated and very unsatisfied with what I had. ![]() ![]() I tried using the help setting and asking other people how to navigate the program, but had no luck. Adding pictures on top of each other and blending it into the background was very difficult for me to figure out. After spending many hours on it and trying other versions of the program, nothing I tried would turn out. ![]() To my surprise, the program was not user friendly. I began by downloading a Photoshop program to create my photomontage. After writing down many ideas of what I wanted to create, I narrowed it down to “Social Media Issues”. This assignment was a little more complicated than I expected.
